1905 Western Federation of Miners.... ilk of the pony express & the 49ers... craft unions were formed... Palmer Raids in the 1920's (attorney general palmer.... first red scare... caused 1000's of unionists to be jailed, and immigrants to be deported with no due process... did best to break up I.W.W. Espionage Act... compared to now - "we are being fog marched into a corporate facist takeover of the country... no fooling.. we are in the weimar republic...the big questions young compare rise of facism in 1920's to what is happening here now... listen young people.... you are not getting the message! Turn off the TV. Find your elders. Talk to them. Learn the peoples' history. Get OUT of your market segment! Our history of people is like one long river....I have the courage to go out and ask questions... a huge river, it's like tributaries that flow down into the polluted river and purify it. Frequency of images is too fast on TV...cannot take it all in. We are thinking differently. TV alters consciousness. It is intended to do so. Last TV set I had, I shot. With a Scarf to blindfold. in the lilac hedge grew through it. Abandoning children to TV.... wander between dream time and world time if left alone... kids understand storytelling...we are robbing children of their imagination.... radio lets you create your own images.... TV tells kids, you can't have the story unless you buy the object. (Go shop Toys R Us!!!! Take a puke bucket with you. JJ)
"A single from Phillips's first record, "Moose Turd Pie," a rollicking story about working on a railroad track gang, saw extensive airplay in 1973. From then on, Phillips had work on the road. His extensive writing and recording career included two albums with Ani DiFranco which earned a Grammy nomination. Phillips's songs were performed and recorded by Emmylou Harris, Waylon Jennings, Joan Baez, Tom Waits, Joe Ely and others. He was awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award by the Folk Alliance in 1997."
