Fishtown, USA

We were walking up the street, me and George, and a young feller starts being near us. "Hi, I'm Jennifer." I tell him. He tells me his name. "That's George." I say, as I point ahead to the figure in front of us. "Yeah," the kid says, as though he knows him... We talk. He lives by Johnny Hots. We tell him about the hood. George's glass studio in the firehouse that Bruce owned. George siliconed glass to the rear window, and you could see it through the house where John and Kay raised their kids. Grover Washington, Jr. in the firehouse. G. Love in John and Kay's house. Lou. The expansion of Penn Treaty Park. "Do you know who John Conners is?" I ask. He doesn't, of course. I tell him.... about "Mr. Penn Treaty", who worked with Ernesta Ballard to get the old park expanded to many times its original size..... The kid rents from Max, the trumpet player, adoptive dad, school music teacher, divorcee..... Max used to rent from John and Kay, and now he owns w/ a billboard, in his yard (Lady Bird curses you!), and he collects rents from all those little wood frame houses that look @ the park..... and this kid lives in one of them. "Don't know who G. Love is..." the kid says. Most Philadelphians don't. One of the city's shined upon sons, and no one knows him!!! Gotta love the humility that is left within after that good old Quaker education. Check it out: Rodeo Clowns....http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wDA5BITCuuE

G. Love and Jack Johnson cut Rodeo Clowns with Donovan Frankfurter...
and the career of Jack Johnson was launched!
Curious George?
(search this blog for more Jack Johnson....)

"You two are awesome!!!!" he says, and off he goes... George and I each thought the other knew the kid.
